The Greening of Company Fleets

For every gallon of gas used, 19.5 Lbs of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere. Companies with fleets of vehicles are paying attention to that statistic these days, in addition to the fluctuations in gas prices which directly hit their bottom line. Companies like Abbott Labs in North Suburban Chicago, which has a pool of 6,500 vehicles, carefully eye both environmental impact and cost savings. If each of Abbott's vehicles saved one gallon of gas per month, the annual net to Abbott would be 78,000 gallons at an average price of $2.60 for a total savings of $202,800; this equates to 1.5 MM Lbs of carbon dioxide.  Through efficiency programs Abbott expects to reduce their consumption even more.
